TRUMPET SOLO

KD 500-TCS City of God for trumpet & organ - by Ken Davies (2007). Duration 3:04      Contemporary, quiet, meditative. Intermediate recital piece or solo for worship service. Inspired by Revelation 21:2 (...the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God), the piece opens with a "looking up" of the solo instrument followed by a soft, gradual, floating musical descent. The piece was commissioned by a Presbyterian choir director (and trumpeter) requesting a "gentle sounding" work to play as an offertory solo and that could be playable by other solo instruments. play mp3

BRASS QUARTET

KD 102 Amplitudes (1994) by Ken Davies [Quartet - 2 tpts, tbn, b.tbn] - dur. 7:00]
Challenging work for grad student performance majors and above. As the name implies, this concert piece uses extensive independent dynamics and muted timbres to achieve a variety of moving timbral textures. Flowing through five distinct sections, the intervallic structures and complex rhythms create moving sound blocks and contours of evolving timbral and percussive variety.
