| The Gulf Coast Chamber
Orchestra focuses on bringing diverse performances of orchestral chamber
music to Mississippi Gulf Coast audiences.
The Gulf Coast Chamber Orchestra began in 1998 when four musicians gathered informally at the Seacoast Wedding Chapel in Biloxi to play chamber music. GCCO founders Alma Flick, Helen Gleaton, Bill Gleaton, and Gigi Sandberg began asking others to join them. Under the baton of Adam Ortiz (Conductor Emeritus), the chamber group grew. Current adult members range from those who once played music in college to regional music teachers and professionals who enjoy playing something different from their usual music jobs. The group has presented concerts at such venues as Seacoast Wedding Chapel in Biloxi, Leggett United Methodist Church in Biloxi, St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs, Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi, St. John's Episcopal Church in Pascagoula and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Biloxi. The 2004 season began with Ken Davies as its new conductor and the GCCO looks forward to expanding the size and quality of the chamber orchestra. The 2005 season was seriously hampered by the destruction brought about by Hurricane Katrina. As 2007 approached, GCCO has focused on smaller chamber ensembles. |
